Tisha B'Ab

Tisha B'Ab is a time when we mourn over the many tragedies that have happened to the Jewish people. It is a time of reflection and repentance.

Maqam Hijaz is used the Shabbat prior to Tisha B'Ab.

The following is copied from a list of instructions that Gabriel A. Shrem hand-copied from Rabbi Shaoul Kassin's source on Thursday, August 6, 1965 (7 Menahem Ab, 5725). All of what is written below is according to the traditions of Aleppo.

Arbit:

1. Haazinu
2. Eicha
3. Al Neharot Babel
4. Hashem Sebaot Imanu, Kaddish, Barechu, and Arbit
5. After the Amidah, Yehi Shem with Half Kaddish
6. Say Anenu during the Amidah.
7. If this is Mosaei Shabbat, say "Baruch... Boreh Meorei HaEsh"
8. Kinot: Al Zot Espedah
9. Kol Ahola
10. Boreh ad Anah
11. Achenu Beit Yisrael Shamau (calculate the amount of years since the destruction)
12. Ad Anah Bechiyah BeSion
13. BaAgalah Ubizman Karib
14. Kaddish Targum
15. VeAtah Kaddosh; Kaddish Titqabal
16. Shir Hama'alot Beshub Hashem
17. Kaddish Yatom, Barechu, Alenu.

Shaharit:

1. Wear the Talit and Tefillin as normal.
2. In Birkot Hashahar, do not say beracha "SheAsah Li Kol Sorki".
3.Pray from the beginning of the Tefilah until the end of the Amidah like normal days; say Anenu in the Amidah.
4. Say "Az Yashir" and it is not our custom to say Haazinu before Yoser because it is considered a "hefsek" (break).
5. There is no Birkat Kohanim and do not say "Elohenu veElohei Abotenu" instead.
6. Yehi Shem; Half Kaddish.
7. Kinot (as written in the book)
8. Kaddish Targum
9. Take out Torah and instead of saying Vezot HaTorah, say "Al Tidom Bat Sion"... ""Al Hechali Ebche"... Kuli Bat Sion"
10. Read the Torah and the Haftara.
11. Ashrei until "VeAtah Kaddosh"
12. HaAzinu Hashamayim.
13. Eicha
14. VeAtah Kaddosh; Kaddish Titqabal
15. Instead of Yehalelu, say "Al Neharot Babel"
16. Beit Yaacob and continue like a normal day.
17. Say Mizmor LeAsaf BaU Goyim BeNahalatecha after the Shir Shel Yom; Kaddish
18. Kaveh/ Ketoret/ Kaddish/ Barechu/ Alenu

Minha:

In the Amidah of Minha say Nahem
Do Kohanim in the Hazarah
Sing the Pizmonim of Nahamu
After Alenu, sing Elecha Hashem Nasati Enay
